JUSTIFICATION

Everything we do: running, playing, eating…we do it through the body. For this reason it is important to explore the different parts of the human body in order to understand how it works. It is also important to present a coherent programme to our students that would let them improve their understanding by combining different subjects working on the same topic. This way it will be easier for them to develop different thinking skills such as: comparing and contrasting, decision making and problem solving.
Communicative and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) provides us with the tools to achieve those goal and this is the reason why the activities presented in this project have been designed according to this methodology.

At school, some of the activities that are presented to the students in bilingual centres do not promote critical thinking, they just consist of Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (BICS) and Low Order Thinking Skills (LOTS).
As far as we are concerned, this is a common mistake followed unconsciously. Teachers should be more concerned about collaborative work and developing students´ critical thinking.
The activities we have included would take place in the cultural week entitled "Train your Brain" the school celebrates every year at the end of the course. This week aims at collaboration among students as well as exploring different ways of peer work through different areas of knowledge. We will work on the topic of the human body through the following subjects: Science, P.E. and Arts.

There is a lesson plan designed for year 2 attached to the blog in the lesson plan example tab. The other materials are included in the Resources tab and these are planned for third graders.
